One way to solve the recurring payments on lightning problem:

Instead of auto-charging, just show a feed of invoices you’ve been “subscribed” to. Each time a payment is due, the person can evaluate where they want to continue supporting that thing.

The challenge will be in how to nudge people to pay without being annoying. I think that’s where social gamification can help. I have some ideas.

LNURLp or even LNURLw are a good way to approach this

On #[3] amethyst a proposal is to have a top-up type system. Amethyst supporter pays some amount, which provides supporter status for some time.

Amethyst supporter has a visible (to self and others) badge that signifies paid support.

The amethyst supporter can easily see how much time is remaining on their supporter status. E.g. 2 months left, 2 weeks left etc.

Honestly laws are moving in that direction in many countries so the payment reminder might become a norm anyway. For example, in India there’s a mandate that renewals of any subscription services need to be manually approved by the cardholder. If the user doesn’t want to use a service anymore, they’ll just stop authorizing the renewals.

I’m sure we’ll see a lot of cool UX emerge as people think up ways to make that interruption more seamless or even fun.

💯 I think we can do a lot UX-wise. I’ll start gathering ideas and making an initial app design
