Several providers of nostr address have agreed to sign a joint note expressing our vision of the NIP-05 and the misinterpretation that has been made of it. NIP-05 is not verification 🙂

NIP-05 is (in most cases) NOT verification but mainly human friendly nostr addresses.

Great article, I agree with every word in it. I always thought nip05 was considered verification because you have to pay for it( assuming bots won’t pay to have it) and that it was ruined by people who offered it for free. It turns out it wasn’t verification all along. 😅
We really are all in a continuous learning process, it may have made sense in the beginning, but in practice we don't have the resources to verify every user registration. Besides, it goes against the free spirit that we encourage with the nostr protocol.
