Yeah China comes to mind, where you have a government -enforced playtime quota. Even without the quota, imagine the amount of surveillance built in to even make that possible

I would like to add that it's a bullshit reason. Ubisoft was doing just fine financially before 2022 or so when they patched all the games you bought to no longer load without a Ubisoft login.
Indeed.. I also believe many of these kind of moves are not driven by real economical reasons, but more from upper high heads decisions and "vision".
The subscribe and "dependance" (not sure this term exists Italian here😅) model is being pushed everywhere, reducing more and more the possibility to be self sufficient and self sovereign, from food, to transports, to money, to news, to games.. etc etc.
The fantastic software they produce is unfortunately captured by an ethically deprived corporation, to the point of committing as much evil as the state allows (or even worse, imposes). It's sadly true of many otherwise great companies.
