Question for you: I downloaded Primal and in order for me to connect a wallet, I have to go through strike.me and verify my identity. Is this a normal process?

It's normal for Primal, but not for all other clients. Primal uses Strike for their built-in wallet. You can use other apps such as Amethyst, Damus, Nostur etc. And choose your own wallet without KYC.
