Idk. I think it's because I 'got' to it late. I didn't use reddit until like 2 years ago.

mastodon had a huge (Yuuuge) lgbt community originally and was twitter based (so literally twitter fags. or mastotroon?) and i didnt even bother cuz even after it had been around awhile there were practically no free speech instances.
but yeah, old school forums were good. but still depends on the people running (ruining?) it and for the same reasons.

Simple: fear. Tv and media started selling the idea that "bullies are bad" and "bigots are bad" etc. Nobody wants to get "canceled". Yea def some people gobble up the bluepill bullshit and turn into drones but i think most people just dont want to get ostricized.
letting people know that you dont give a shit if they come off as racist or bigots or whatever is the way. yeah, you might get a few hardcore bigots in there that need some help but most of it isnt what the sensitive fag types try to make it out to be.
Need to bring back bullies and give them a free pass to open a can of whoopass (within reason.. like 90s whoopass). Fags and troons will cry but shit will slowly go back to normal.

yeah on a DIY project their just being assholes. i mean i can understand if someone posts a bad way of doing a diy / bad advice i guess, but you'd think it'd be downvote + comment like "there's an easier / better way to do this. see ___" or something.
i think they just hateful people that like to downvote for whatever reason. i know when i was trolling on lwmmy world, i would sometimes see a few of my more neutral posts get upvotes.. then i would post someitnh more disagreeable and they would go back and change any positives to be negatives. like they cant evaluate each thing on its own, so if you post 1 thing that offends them, they go and downvote every single thing you posted just to be petty
personally, i think they are the kind of people who would downvote something out of jealousy too.
