I can't say I don't understand the impulse on the part of the Israelis, but I like to imagine I would have greater compassion.

I understand the impulse to ignore all that, focus on the violent revolt, and want to crush those who would inflict such violence (especially if your media is telling you all sorts of atrocity stories and minimizing the role of your own military in killing your own countrymen)
