Engineer in Nuclear Risk and Safety
Discussion
Woah
Interesting, followed!
I have a question for you:- If Uranium is natural and lies around in the earth in ore that is not pure, then why would nuclear waster be so bad, if it where to be returned, just as diluted, to the earth where it was mined. Am I missing something?
Nuclear waste has decay products Uranium naturally lacks those
💯
Once it has been used in a fission reactor the uranium becomes unstable and will decay into other smaller elements. The decay process releases radiation that can be damaging to organic life.
Note however that the amount of radiation decreases exponentially over time.
There is very little nuclear waste in the world and it is very well contained. Risks from nuclear waste are significantly lower than the risk from toxic solar panels in a landfill.
