Look up a map that depicts them .. it's always a little bit more messy than you thought.

The Netherlands lives basically in the wrong timezone continuously. It would fit better to have +0 and +1 like UK, but they have +1 and +2 which makes +2 a rather extreme offset.

In Australia, iirc, there are two timezones that share the exact same code but with different meaning. It's probably easy to find more such weird examples.

It's all so lovely. 😋

Cool, will check it out.

Scanning through it quickly makes me think there was a better presentation, but should also be by Jon Skeet. I can't find it tho.

Video I mentioned basically concludes - never do it yourself. Look to those that have traveled the same path before you and graciously thank them for their work

Yup, those corners are to fit small islands to the most sensible zones according to nearby continents.

There's more though. I think there are a few zones within other zones. There are a few half offsets. And more like that.

I think one island (or something) moved from the one half (+x) into the other half (-y) or vice versa. It's quite a bit of fun if you only need to enjoy reading an explanation and not have to work with these anomalies.
