Muslims in Germany sometimes do this. They don't even register the marriages until there's a dispute they can't mediate at the mosque, and then the prenup functions as a marriage certificate.

That's actually pretty clever.

I despise the state being involved with marriage at all, which us literally a communist concept designed to undermine the strength of marriages.

It's gross and needs to be ended.

Enforcing marriage contracts has always been one of the main businesses of the state because so many wars were fought over them. Marriage contracts also define property rights, after all.

Issuing marriage licenses is the new part.

The state enforcement is still a recent human thing. I don't think it is correct or right for the state to be involved with it. Licensing is straight from the pits of commie hell.

Recent? The Romans and Mesopotamians also had marriage laws.

The only real change was separating the religion from the state. In some places, marriages went with the state and the church adds an additional wedding with different vows. And in others, it went with the church, and the state just acknowledges existing marriages.

Sure, but, those two governments don't represent a large portion of humanity, and tribal cultures don't have a formal state, but lean very heavily on customs/tradition.

More primitive forms of government just have more primitive forms of contracts (customs) and more primitive forms of enforcement (take him behind the shed).

I'm not sure why it needs to be more complicated than that.

Men got tired of beating each other up.

*some men

I think a lot of modern men are actually chafing at the lack of opportunity to beat up scoundrels and shoot cads.

That did tend to improve the gene pool and keep life less chaotic, it's true.

Could probably campaign to bring back dueling and lynch mobs and win. 😂

Woodchipper Party 2028

you get my vote for sure!

Every guy I know low-key has a mental list of everyone they want to mount on a pike.

i dont know about a specific list, but I do occassionally (and fondly) think about what I would do to property intruders.

this is what the old books promised would eventually come, a total reckoning for the whole world... makes sense that it becomes necessary after the rot has got so deep

The Great Chippening.

the majority of people in federal government leadership positions and gigacorporate boards are on the list for me, for sure, those people preside over the most disgusting, violent, oppressive criminal cartel in history, and then the patsies they use, the actors who play their good cop bad cop punch and judy show, they are next

I'm very OK with dueling being legalized

Islam is a sect of Christianity. Just read the Qur'an and you will see that according to the angel who spoke to Mohammed, Jesus is the hero of the story. And there is no apocalypse in the Qur'an either, you have to go to the Hadiths and other ancillary texts for that. They uphold the Law more strongly than most christians in many areas, this is why they are enemy number 2 after the russians

I consider it to be an offshoot to Christianity, like Mormonism, Arianism, or Jehova's Witnesses.

Yep... I was raised Seventh Day Adventist and Ellen White and her buddy John Kellogg et Al were disgusting charlatans. But we followed the Hebrew Sabbath and the Kosher and Daniel dietary rules

In the 500 year period leading to Jesus there war many other sects that sprang up, taoism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and others... Islam was a response to the Catholic Church IMO, and the idolatry and statues of catholic Christianity are extremely contradictory, as is the changing of the Sabbath day.

Catholics go by Hebraic time, so our day of rest actually begins on Saturday evening, not Sunday morning. That's why we have so many vigils.

but who moved monday to the first day of the week?

American society

no, if the sabbath, as per genesis, is the 7th day, then monday is the second day

You're right. Sabbath, or 'Sabbati,' is Saturday, and Sunday is 'Dominica,' or "The Lord's Day. Saturday is the Hebrew day of rest, but Sunday is the Christian day of worship."

if jews are on friday sunset to saturday sunset, probably that's what it is, that's how i see it

i read the first 5 books of the new testament and nothing said that it changes

That's true. They're Friday to Saturday and we're Saturday to Sunday.

The Latin Church in it's canonical language even uses the Sabbath, or 'Sabbati,' for Saturday, which is better than the Saturn's Day we have in English. Sunday is 'Dominica,' or the Lord's Day. The seven days of the week weren't changed, but even as early as before the Scriptures' writing Christians worshiped on the Lord's Day.

in Spanish that day of the week is still called Domingo

probably other Latin languages are similar but IDK

This idea of statues basically equating to idolatry stems from a misunderstanding of latria, or the worship due to God alone. We make statues all the time in wider society, we let our children play with dolls and action figures, and we set up nativity scenes during Advent and Christmas, which are all philosophically identical. It just so happens that statues in churches have a different context.

What constitutes idolatry is treating something not God like an object of worship, which is what latria means, and is again different from dulia, or reverence/respect/honor. The decalog command that we honor our fathers and mothers, and that's not idolatry. To "worship" is the proper sense is to "make sacrifice to".

wider society is wicked so there's that

Are nativity sets and action figures also?

they are all idolatry, do you see the strict islamic no idolatry people with these things?

even the orthodox with their icons you can find references in both canonical catholic bible and apocrypha that suggest that "image" means any representation

from a psychological perspective, and anthropology, these are all in the category of "fetish" which is a surrogate for an abstract concept, and are the mark of cargo cults and primitive, violent societies

and don't get me started on christmas... coca cola and charles dickens were instrumental in those two travesties

i don't know about easter but it's ishtar and the rabbits and eggs are clearly spring pagan festival images, that have been relabeled christian
