Today, I was trying to explain to my mother/ she is 80 /why I believe cyberspace communities built on decentralized protocols like Nostr are the future of human interaction and freedom of expression. Unlike centralized social media, Nostr's peer-to-peer structure allows users to freely discuss topics that are hard to find in the physical world.

I told my mother that while in-person interaction remains valuable, the challenges of finding like-minded individuals can make online, protocol-based communities an appealing alternative. The decentralized nature of Nostr makes it resistant to censorship, as there is no single point of control. Additionally, Nostr accounts are tied to public-private key cryptography, giving users more control over their data and identity.

This decentralized approach, combined with Nostr's developer-friendly design, aligns perfectly with my vision for the future of online interaction and expression. I believe cyberspace communities gathered around decentralized protocols have the best chance of fighting for true freedom, both economically and culturally.

However, my mother found it really hard to believe that I truly look for friends, collaborators, and people to discuss current events and the future on Nostr. I don't think she's an exception - a lot of people don't treat online communities seriously. This is likely due to the permanent damage caused by the centralization and misuse of traditional social media platforms.
