What browser extension do mac users use with nostr ? Or do macs not have extensions with nsec signer ?

Depends on the browser. Alby or nos2x for chrome. Alby for Firefox. Nostore for Safari.

ok so here comes my real ignorant realization: i thought macs you could only use safari (i've never used a mac desktop or lap top). But maybe im thinking of ios... that is the case ?

Yea with macOS you can install and use anything you want. iOS and iPadOS are more restrictive.
