I have a guitar amp that increases hum as the guitars volume is reduced. At full volume, hum is gone (even when not playing).

When I use a buffered pedal in front of the amp, this problem is eliminated.

So, I think it has something to do with impedance.

My amp uses a 1M ohm resistor from input to ground before the 1st preamp tube.
