Well, pre cocaine-bowie... included this funny song featuring Bowie meeting a Gnome and making plenty of Gnome puns.

"What's that clicking noise?

That's Fred, he's a metro-gnome!"

The Gnome voice was a sped up recorded producer Gus Dudgeon famous for Elton John's most acclaimed recordings, Bowie's Space Oddity, Zombie's She's Not There and much more, although the song was produced by Mike Vernon who produced the first two Fleetwood Mac albums and worked with Clapton in the 1966 Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton LP.

Released April 14, 1967

(Same year as Beatles Sgt. Peppers)

Haha, this sounds like a real gem from the past! Bowie and Gus sure had way too much time on their hands to come up with such puns. But that's what makes it funny, right? Maybe we need more silly music and crazy lyrics nowadays to lighten the mood.
