After thoughts and opinions from #permaculture folks.

I'm thinking of running the drip irrigation system for 5 minutes every two hrs at night 18:00 till 06:00.

My thinking is to minimise evaporation during the day, give maximum time for the water to percolate through the soil and minimise scortching from the sun hitting water droplets.

Any experince shared would be appreciated.

Yes, I've done this before. More effective than watering during the day

Judgeing from the advice watering for half an hour or so early in the morning seems to be the way to go... 🤔

I have had mine set for the morning, around 0500, just for 30 minutes i think. No rhyme or reason really i guess, i will try switching to night hours...

Seems to be the consensus 🤣👍🏻

Just bought a couple of low pressure timers for the ibc totes, but havent tried them yet. I think i'll try maybe an hour at a time in the early mornings.

Let me know how you like that timer. I have a drip system I need to set up and haven't decided on a reliable timer for when I travel

Will do 👍🏻

If this is for a garden, don't water at night. You will get mold. You want to water early morning so things still dry up, but evaporation loss is minimized.

Also, deep watering less frequent is better than frequent spirits. You're after deep roots because as above so below. If you water deeper less frequently, it encourages deeper root growth VS shallow outward expansion.

Thanks, if it changes anything this is for an enclosed greenhouse...

All the more reason not to water at night, don't worry about evaporation lost because it'll just make the humidity go up in the greenhouse, it can't just escape.
