What do badges do? seeing a lot of them now

They don't do anything besides act as cosmetic ornaments on display for you and all to see. They are a representation of something. An event, having access, participating in something, or something like else.

You should connect with #[4] as he had some great ideas about the future of badges such as being used for admissions or “permissioning” with expiration times.
