Basically 2017 segwit was hey let’s make it so we get 2mb max and then it turns out developers didn’t do sufficient pentest and so with taproot + bit of miner help you can hog the whole 4mb block yourself. Cue ordinals and now same devs and new voices saying hey let’s make this change that we’ll totally pentest like we did 2017.. trust us! Run your own node, but trust us!
