When I think about how zaps could change the game of sharing digital content online, it kinda blows my mind.

Let’s use photography as an example.

You cancel your (X) blue tick, and that gives you back £20 per month. That currently buys around 50,000 sats.

I can now zap 100 sats to a photographer I see, who shared a lovely picture, because looking at that photo gave me some joy (value). But, because I cancelled my blue tick, I can now do that 500 times a month!! Some of the better photographers I follow will get zapped numerous times in the month.

Now imagine just 10% of people start doing the same thing. It very quickly creates a system that supports numerous creators where value is the key metric, rather than attention eg (follows, likes, views etc). And it’s the attention metric that drives the ads, that drives the clickbait, that drives the societal divisions.

It’s absolutely mind blowing and will make the world a better place.

Nice find. So true. There's a reason companies can charge $5/month and so be billionaires. We may not value it but if we put it all together, that's quite the honeypot for progressing the things we believe is important to us, and who knows better what we need most, than ourselves.

Yes exactly. Rent seekers hate FOSS.
