Very interesting convo, I think that (as always) rights and laws will come long after the societal changes that such advanced robots will bring about. And it's a very interesting philosophical question not only if they could have rights, but if they should have the same as us, and what does it mean to be conscious to achieve that status and how can we stablish that when we don't fully understand our own consciousness.

And also most likely (as again is often the case), different jurisdiction, with different societies will adopt them at different speeds, where somewhere they'll be contributing taxes from their labour (in their name or their employer) and being able to marry sooner that in other, perhaps less progressive, jusrisdictions.
