Hello! So I’m a #newbie Nostriche (I’ve learned the correct term now. Yay me haha) and I thought I should introduce myself. I’m a sports journalist, photographer, and editor for the most part, currently publishing my content on #Substack after my 13-year tenure at a local newspaper abruptly came to an end with a job elimination. I write and post about other topics that interest me as well, such as social and environmental issues, human rights, and everyday life. I have no patience for right-wing extremists, Nazis, and the like. Maybe it’s just me dreaming, but I want to be part of a world where we live together in peace and harmony. ☮️

Hello 👋 welcome

Hi Sean! Welcome to Nostr! 🫂

Welcome!! Love to see writers join Nostr. Will check out your substack 😊

Hello. And thank you.

Hello. If you like left wing stuff, you’ll love bluesky

I have a feeling you mean that sarcastically? 😉

Ummm nooo, quite serious. BS is very left wing, ask anyone here, they’ll confirm.

Bluesky user base is currently *VERY* left wing.

Nostr user base is currently very libertarian.

I don’t know why bluesky’s user base is made up of that demographic. But I do know nostr’s current demographic relates to it being bitcoin-adjacent.

Both will grow into different social circles over time.

They only give codes to other left’ers 🤣 built little army they did. I have BS codes, no one wants em cause they don’t wanna associate with that left group

In my early experience (just a few hours) using #Bluesky I’ve found it to be exactly the opposite. While there are some progressives, it seems equally inundated with right-wing extremists though not as badly as Twitter. On the plus side there seem to be various lists that one can follow that automatically mute posts from those people. So that’s something. I’ve found the environment on #Mastodon and #Calckey to be far more open, progressive, and welcoming, though.

That’s interesting, I’ve been on bluesky for a couple months now and would probably estimate that 90% of users outside of people I follow are liberal. However, I’ve barely used it over the past couple weeks so perhaps it’s grown to different circles since I was a daily user.

Or we may have different definitions of “left” and “liberal” 😉

Yep, was thinking this as well 🤷‍♂️. The current demographics probably won’t matter in the long run anyway

I’ll make it easy lol. Do u support liberal Trudeau?😂

When you sign up? BS made multiple algorithmic changes recently.

i still have friends who would like to get on bluesky fyi

The biggest problem with Bluesky right now is the painfully slow roll-out of invites. Meanwhile anyone can just spin up a Nostr key and go.

We’re so damn early, the character of both networks will probably begin to overlap more. I just hope people on both Nostr and Bluesky are open-minded enough to let others with views different than their own engage without being ganged up on and shamed.

Except racists and Nazis. Fuck them.

This puts well my impression of both. 💯

Interesting. Thank you.

Welcome Sean! I hope you find the nostr community welcoming so far. If you haven’t checked it out already, you should look at habla.news which is a nostr client made for long form articles/blogs similar to substack.

Also friendly tip for dealing with those accounts you may not have patience for (because those people are here) - mute quickly & often. Curating your relay list also helps a lot.

Thanks very much for the information. I will have a look.

i haven’t found hardly any nazis there, they get dogpiled fast
