I admire the work you do, Peter! Thanks to WBD I got to hear what so many bright minds have to say on a plethora of topics, however I am concerned with traditional monetization models. I’m sure many of us here are. While the experienced bitcoiners may ignore the ads, the newbies decide they are endorsements and may lose money and blame bitcoin for that.
Personally being a #Bitcoin only content creator in a post-USSR country I don’t even have an option to have sponsors. Bitcoin businesses are pretty much oppressed here and hence are not interested in advertising for the Russian speaking audience. If I could get sponsorship from a bitcoin only business I probably would. But this brings back the problem of bias.
I’ll bring up a negative (imho) example which is by no means a representation of all your work:
In a January episode with Steven McClurg you touched on a total fiasco of Gemini and how they got a pile of their customers’ money frozen. You defended Winklevosses actions. This of course could have been your honest opinion, but I felt like a lot there had to do with Gemini being your sponsor — talking bad (or in this case, truth) about them would mean breaking contract & losing money. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Not sure how such contracts work, but I surely wouldn’t wanna be in a position where I can’t call out a scammer cause he’s my sponsor who can sue me for not following the contract agreement.
I am looking forward to value-4-value model to rise and enable a more efficient and honest approach to sharing valuable information. Hope you’ll endorse it as well. https://dergigi.com/value/
