As someone who has been “news sober” for almost 5 months. (humblebrag, i know.)

The word “they” has become increasingly apparent to me in people’s speech.

It’s used to describe some words or actions, often out of context, by some (presumed to be) mutually agreed upon opposition.

It implies an alliance.

But when pressed - the specifics are often vague at best.

Also used frequently to deflect personal responsibility for making desired changes.

"They should..." to describe how global political problems ought to be solved instead of thinking about what the individual should do in his own network or locality.
