I had a friend who passed years ago, as he decided to stop his cancer treatment as to not out his mother in any more debt.

He had once told me before his cancer came back that the largest reason for people declaring bankruptcy was medical debt

This is so sad to hear and I am sorry for your loss. Did he by any chance have any health insurance?

I don't know, as I said it was years ago, I was too young and naive to recognize he was indeed dying, so didn't really ask questions like that
