Why use a translation service, when you can just select text and translate with iOS? I’m sure Android must have built-in translation functionality for text selection as well.

Other than being able to auto translate, which I don’t want to do anyways, I really don’t see the use other than convenience.

Especially when it costs 0.1 sat per character for that convenience.

The translation shown would have cost 22 sats. Worth it?

That translation would only have cost 8.2 sats with NoKYCTranslate FYI

How so? Counted the characters manually and came up with 200+ (don’t recall the exact amount). Let’s call it 200 to make the numbers easy. 200 * 0.1 = 20 sats

Possibly you are using the number of input characters rather than output characters? If so, that is great! In that case, I can see how you get to 8.2 as there are fewer characters in the input.

Yes it is only the number of input characters!

Excellent. Thanks for confirming that. I stand corrected!

Thanks for being one of the first few people to try it. Hoping to get out more features / improvements in the next few weeks!

Nice! Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

It’s nice for translations to be more seamless - as often I have no idea what is being said, so how would I know I want to translate it to begin with. Plus we can make technology do the work.. why select and tap a few times.

I agree it’s a nice alternative approach to use iOS built in however.

Yes I do not deny the utility and convenience it brings. Overall net positive for nostr, and gives it an edge over other places.

As for selecting what to translate, I quickly assess the profile posting, to determine if it looks like a bot or not. If not then I translate the first note, assess that and decide if the profile or thread is something I’m interested in translating more.

Admittedly this approach takes more time, so again back to convenience.
