Why is it so much easier to make friends when you're traveling than when you're in your own city?

Same thing happens to me. I guess people are friendlier to outsiders
Cliques
Nobody you know to go back to. It's either make friends or be alone. I think that motivates people.
Plus I think a huge purpose of traveling is to meet new people. If we did that everyday while at home we'd get nothing else done!
