They provide all sorts of metadata to the state (expected). But they also "scan" incoming mails to detect abuse. They say it's necessary to keep their "good" reputation because otherwise their service would be (mis)used for anonymous mass sign-ups in third party social media sites.

They didn't accept Monero for years, which is a red flag in itself.

Glad we have better options than (proton)mail.

Self host or getting rid of email. Let's be real. Offer people a way to reach you via Simplex or Session is the answer to most problems with emails.
