Isn’t the blockchain already restricted to only transactions? What kind of stuff could people push to be saved on it other than transactions themselves?

How’s that possible? Won’t nodes reject other data? I mean afaik btc doesn’t have contract signing such as ETH does it?
So how would someone be able to save literal files?
