We’re planning on getting them out of the local village school and into an unschool. While the education system in NL has many types of schools to choose from; montessori, Steiner, Jenaplan, it is still very restrictive in terms of allowing parents to control their kids education. Homeschooling is very rare here.

That's almost surprising to hear. Unschooling, as kids will what they want when they want. There's several skills that I want my kids to have that I either offer them myself or find extra instruction for. Achieving a black belt is one of them.

All the best to you and your kids.

Totally recommend doing this. We did this over 15 years ago. Our youngest has never stepped foot in a school. Quite a few families from the northern European countries where homeschooling is illegal (Sweden, Germany, Netherlands... ) are living part of the year in southern Spain. You avoid questions as you blend in with the tourists. If you can work remotely, is a good option. It's sunnier too ☺😊

Thanks. I’m also considering Madeira as there is an unschooling project starting there and a growing international community. Aside from schooling, I miss being around other internationals (for lack of a better term). Madeira also has ideal temperature and sun exposure.

Yes Madeira could be a good option too ☺️ I like the idea of 🌞🌡️
