They said the same thing about the UK two years ago. From what I read, the UK finally got around to passing that law, Apple rolled over without a fight, and it's radio silence from Signal. No indication they followed through AFAIK.

Maybe if enough people raise hell about it they'll take a stand. It worked for usernames (even if it did take nearly a decade and they still collect phone numbers, still, it's some progress).

The Swedish law in question would take around 1 year to pass. If unmodified from it's current writting, then they'd leave - or so they said.

Now, if they aren't forced to store messages but instead they are asked to provide read access to messages to law enforcement, would they leave? That's to be seen.

Privacy is under attack and many "privacy-focused" companies will end up caving for fears to have no markets left to operate by the start of the next decade.

The curse of interesting times 🫤

Well most persons focusing on security use other tools like SimpleX

We will see if signal will leave or not.

The majority of people in cybersecurity in the US are still on Signal. Matrix is growing fast though. I don't know anyone in the industry who uses SimpleX. That one seems even less well adopted than Briar.

Well as Good source I know some security persons in Europe use SX.

Well let see what future gives us.

I'm on Signal and SX and like how SX handle connections

Pick Simplex if you want extreme privacy and don’t need bells and whistles. Go for Matrix (Element) if you want a versatile, decentralized platform with more features and community support.

#privacy

Matrix is not decentralized because 99% of matrix users are registered at matrix.org , and all messages are stored on the servers of all group chat participants. Message delete requests are not mandatory to follow.

I dont see any benefit from #SimpleX or #Session compared to Signal.

In SimpleX and Session there is no way to detect a fingerprint change of your chat partner.

If you want to go OpSec, choose #Briar, #XMPP / #Jabber or better get rid of your mobile fone completely
