if I can't control the protocol/format/whatever, and it's not simple and unchanging, I ain't writing my own library. fuck having a perpetual maintenance problem because someone else can't leave the standard alone

however I will happily write my own standard if my needs are simple. I do not appreciate unnecessary dependencies :smuggyhitler:

Copying is usually the superior option. With the caveat that if you're going to make customizations it's usually better to embed your own fork.
