the live gimmick works to get me to watch shit I otherwise wouldn't. I have found that the novelty of "being live" allows me to tolerate things I wouldn't normally
Though jim streams I do watch vods of, they aren't the kind of slop I can only watch live

As far as I can tell, there's a sense of exclusivity that comes with being in a particular moment at a particular time.
The live stream makes the entertainment scarce, like going to a concert, instead of listening at home. That's the best analogy I can come up with.
There's only ever the one live experience, but a rewatch is just one of thousands, millions of times.
Those can be special, if it's a meaningful piece of media, but the scarcity adds some sort of extra value. If it's something special or meaningful to begin with, then that's pretty kino to get to see live.
Same reason I go see every rocket launch that I can in person. It's just to be there, and see.
It became all about money eventually, I think that’s what it comes down to.
