It send the note to all your relays. Super usefull when you got a private relay and want to 'save' notes.

But aren't they already stored in those relays when initially posted? I'm wondering if that kinda shares the note once again on the relay so it's now on the top of the relay with all the recent posts.

It's useful if you've added relays since you've posted. Go back and rebroadcast old notes to make sure that the new relay has those events. It won't push those back into people's timelines.

Yes. But relays are decentralized and maintained in different ways. It's not guaranteed all the relays keep your notes forever. It's not a blockchain, it's up to the maintainer. AFAIK deleting very old notes isn't weird for relay runners to keep the database small enough to maintain.

Private relays are perfect for this. Just you (and maybe some friends) notes will be saved. This is a tiny database and can run on anything not to powerful.

Is it challenging for a non tech person to manage a private relay? And costs?

Well I just downloaded the app in the Umbrel Store and it worked out of the box. You need an umbrel node for that, tho. Which is super easy but requires some hardware. Pi4 with an SSD.

Other then that no idea how to run a private node. There are some serivces which you can buy one I think on here also.
