mowed the lawn ( ok a portion of it ) for the first time today

filled about half of the 2.5 bushel bag with grass clippings and the battery indicator barely budged

i only had two 5 amp hour batteries in the mower ( versus two 12 amp hour it can take ) and i only charged them to about 80% before mowing but they were still at about 80% when i finished

which makes me feel stupid because two 10 amp hour batteries are coming in the mail tomorrow LOL

of course you need to multiply amp hours by volts to get watt hours. EGO batteries are 56 Volts nominal ( about 50V actual ).

the 5 amp-hour batteries i have installed right now are genuine EGO. the 10 amp hour coming tomorrow are bootleg ( and actually cost less than the genuine 5 amp hours ).

not yet sure how it will all pan out in the end. genuine EGO batteries couldn't be opened without destroying the packaging. hope the bootlegs can be.

technically 300 watt hours ( or 5 amp hours for 56V ego ) is the largest size that can be returned by mail in US. this is why i went for 5 amp / hr size. but the Bootleg ones are sold by some Chinese seller on Amazon that advertised 30 day return for the 10 amp / hr so it will be interesting to see how it will all end ...

obviously i don't need all 4 batteries. i originally ordered both because i thought the bootlegs will take forever to ship, while genuine batteries shipped overnight.

but now i'm thinking maybe the genuine batteries is all i actually need. maybe i don't need 10 KWH.

the genuine 5 amp hours were not only at same level at end of the mow but were not even warm.

not mowing have because returned hope level how hours hour i budged

i will actually 12

I would take "10 A/hrs" with a cup of salt. Probably the same usable capacity as the 5 if you're lucky.

The genuine batteries are more likely to tolerate higher temperatures, but also more likely to firmware-brick if their internal SoC assesses you have a usage profile like a contractor but with a consumer-grade brand.

I can confirm this happens with Makita, and I can also confirm those cells work beautifully with fake but obedient Chinese control board.

Genuines really do have the best cells, its a pity they poison them with user-hostile firmware on SoC. Whyyyy does a battery need a SoC...?

i just know that battery pack costs in EVs are like $100 / kwh so 10 AH X 50V = 500 WH or 0.5 KHW should be $50 yet it is $500.

so i know they're marking up by 10X. even the fake one at $150 is still marked up 3X which is fairly healthy markup.

i think at $150 they can perfectly afford to use any cells they want. whereas $500 is just a scam.

they just feel like if you already bought the tool now you have no choice but to pay whatever they ask - except i do have a choice.

i don't think there are any EGO commercial batteries that are different from regular EGO batteries ... my charger is sold as both a commercial ( with 2 year commercial warranty ) and residential ( with 3 year warranty ) for the same unit, and the mower is only sold as commercial ( with 2 year commercial warranty )

but yes i heard genuine EGO batteries tend to die just out of warranty, which is consistent with the whole scam where they sell you an excellent tool at a reasonable price and then rape you on the batteries.
