Of course it does. Russia is spending almost half of the government budget on war, something like 10% to 20% of GDP. A large % of that goes to buying weapons and parts from foreign countries (eg drones). Russia pays for that through exports, especially oil.

Wars at this scale are always a question of economics. Crush the economy, stop the war.

The crew of those ships and the ships themselves are valid military targets. In this case it was nature that ultimately sunk them. But it would have been equally valid to use a drone to kill the crew.

Do you understand what "reprisals" are, and what would happen to Western economies if our governments shared your insanity?

Do you understand what DID happen to Western economies during WW1 and WW2? Russia and its allies are far more capable of commerce-raiding today than the Central Powers were during WW1.

Ukraine has an "international legion", you could sign up and "walk the walk", if you truly believed and weren't just striking a pose.

Iran, alone, could likely end the modern Western economy, lifestyle and democratic illusion with a determined, drone-heavy harrassment of our oil supply lines.

Russia is at least an order of magnitude more dangerous, and has local allies on every major ocean.

You have absolutely no idea how your food, fuel and plastic trinkets reach you, do you?

We are very vulnerable to commerce-raiding, and Russia is not. Thankfully Putin is a gullible old Boomer with a crush on the (vanished) 1990s West, and a dependency on China who don't want him to fire the first shot in commerce-raiding because China is as vulnerable as we are.

This is one of the few accurate assessments of Putin's character that I've read. He has a bad tendency toward nostalgia and sentimentality. As a leader, he has accomplished some things in improving Russia's condition since the fall of the USSR. But he's generally overrated by his followers. He doesn't really have it in him to confront the Western leaders and his actions throughout his career have amounted to half-measures at best. The West has always been able to lead him. I don't think Xi has it in him to be a counter-balance to the West either, though I have less insight into his character.
