So I've setup a lightning address in Phoenix wallet, yet this article seems to indicate there is no way to use the address in Nostr.
Am I reading this correctly? Is there amy non-custodial lightning wallet that can be used with nostr?

nope
you can receive in Zeus via the zaplocker (have to switch on your node within 24hrs)
but to send you have to manually pay the invoice. Phoenix is the same way, without any receive capabilities.

Zeus runs a node on your phone.
(one of many) UX hurdles for LN is that it doesn't work unless youre online.
So Zeus puts your sats in limbo for you until you come online to receive. If you dont, they expire.
For zapping the best thing I found is nostr:nprofile1qqsf07zg4hxyccnkdp07fppxmetpfzru3fg6mgzx3nk8r7af8qnjjygpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpr3mhxue69uhkummnw3ezucnfw33k76twv4ezuum0vd5kzmqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumrpdejq52q4x7
you can run your own node there for extremely few sats. they hold the keys (custodial!) but you can completely administer your own node and get a feel for how LN works.
Id check it out and read their documentation even if you dont want to use the service. They clearly are interested in educating about LN.
a lightning address is like an URL. It points to a service, that is running on a server.
The lightning address service is like a middleware for your lightning node. It acts as an access point to ask your node to generate invoices.
This service, as well as lightning nodes, require to be online at all times to receive a payment. This is how lightning works.
On a phone wallet/node, you have very low "online guarantees".
so what you need is something like @alby hub (running on a server) to receive zaps directly into self custody.
If this sounds too complicated, you can use a custodial wallet, and sweep to self custody on a frequent basis.

Option 1 - Quick and easy, compromising custody
- Use a custodial wallet like nostr:nprofile1qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fspzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm0d9hx7uewd9hj75a0pev or Wallet of Satoshi to get an @domain ligtning receive address to add to your profile
- Sweep from that wallet to a self-custodial wallet like Phoenix or Electrum
