this is what im trying to decide between, I have been pretty careless with regards to privacy and pretty much all my sats are kyc, meaning that i have a lot of compromised addresses on the main derivation from my seed. Contemplating whether i should just change the "account number" on the coldcard and use that but then that main derivation will always be compromised so maybe just start fresh?

Up to you really, it shouldn’t compromise the wallet unless you given out the seed phrase, you can essentially just use the accounts to have a kyc wallet and non kyc wallet on the device

do you know how to use a different "account" on software like sparrow wallet? i am able to change the account number on the coldcard to look at the addresses but not sure how to do it on sparrow

Yea once you made a new wallet on the device, you need to create a new file for sparrow, I have a Mac so on file it’ll show either open/new wallet. Then like before you have to export the xpub on the ColdCard to sparrow. Just make sure to use that derive seed identity on the ColdCard to ensure you switched between accounts
