Do hard things.

As homeschool parents, my wife and I have taken responsibility for educating our kids. The funny thing about teaching your kids Latin is that you first have to LEARN Latin.

Latin is a lot like #bitcoin because it requires proof of work. You trade time for knowledge. There are no shortcuts.

Aside from it being the genesis of the Romance languages (and a huge portion of English), there are lots of reasons to learn Latin. However, my top reasons are that it requires improving your pattern recognition, problem solving skills, and attention to detail. No sloppy thinking allowed.

Thanks, @Kanuto for the stickers - they’re a convenient way to help me keep my textbooks separated from the kids’ copies.

They're about to crush those SATs

Totally! But that’s just an unintended consequence. 😉

Ugh. My nostr:npub1yp7wfa7msdpusf4vupzttttu2mx3cns7whx5cgkt4yr9pkpvujus2mzys7 tag didn’t link to his npub in the post.

Caecilius est in horto.

We also homeschool our kids using a classical curriculum including Latin. I suffered through it myself during my own formative years at the hands of a superannuated Latin master whose catchphrase was “If in doubt, take a clout.”

It’s amazing how it all comes back. Amo, amas, amat, amamus , amatis, amant. Qui quae quod quem quam quod etc.

Let’s not forget this classic scene from Life of Brian, either. “People called ‘Romanes’ they go the ‘ouse?!”

Ha! I hadn’t seen that Monte Python scene in years. So much funnier knowing the grammar. 🤣
