Japanese netizens describe derisive laughter as "kusa" (grass). There is a stepwise reason for this. In Japanese, the term "Waraeru" is used to refer to something funny or amusing. The initial "W" of this word was first used as an abbreviation for laughter. Then, the continuous laughter was expressed by a series of "W" letters(e.g. WWWWWWW), which looked like grass growing, and thus, laughing came to be called "Kusa" (grass).
