Weeding garlic is simultaneously harvesting food for rabbits

With the explosion in spring growth comes weeding. Thankfully when I weed, I am simultaneously harvesting. In this case, weeding the garlic in the food forest is harvesting food for the rabbits. Been pulling three 5gal buckets of weeds a day for the last several days. Additionally, when I feed my rabbits, they fertilize the cannabis garden because I plant the cannabis in the rabbit colony. So by weeding the garlic, I'm feeding both the rabbits and the cannabis. Integrate rather than segregate to catch and store energy!

I’m doing the same thing! I do my “garden 20” (20 minutes ) of pulling weeds every day and use the weeds to feed my rabbits. BTW, I really dig the colony concept you use for raising rabbits. Personally, I tractor my rabbits, but my circumstances are different. I think your rabbit colony is really cool.

It's amazing how rabbits can turn vegetation into meat so much better than simply composting. With rabbits you get the meat and the fertility. We used to tractor the rabbits, it's better than the colony in many ways. Lots more control of the impact and easier to take care of them as well as harvest.

they are good food for cats and dogs too... not so great for humans, very lean, leaner than chicken

Garlic thriving in the food forest; harvesting scapes

Time to harvest the scapes on the garlic in the food forest so the plants can put their energy into growing the bulbs instead of flowers. Looking forward to garlic scape pesto and meat marinades.

Everything is food for something at the homestead

All the weeds, and prunings are fed to the rabbits from around the homestead.

I've been feeding the rabbits one or two wheelbarrows full most days which means we only give them some grain coated with molasses and mineral to supplement their nutrition.

Soon we will start harvesting rabbits regularly but for now we just process one when we get taste for rabbit. We used this one to make white chilli.

What would normally end up in the compost bin is instead used to feed the rabbits and turned into meat which we eat. The rabbits deposit thier manure helping to feed the cannabis, which we produce and sell seed. So weeding and pruning which helps our fruits and vegetables grow better, ends up growing us more meat, cannabis and helps us earn some sats while we're at it. Everything is food for something!
