It seems like it would make holding your keys more complicated instead of easier.
The trade-off for the decreased ease of use is the increased security.
But for an individual, I agree with OP. SeedXOR and/or passphrase has been a better option for me. If I ran a company or some large operation, I could probably find a suitable use case for multi-sig.
