Any recommendations for VPN Routers? 👀

I want to connect via an existing wifi network and use mullvad. My research so far has led me to travel routers by GL. iNet like the GL-A1300 Slate.

Are there any disadvantages using something like this at home?

Are there better / cheaper alternatives?

🤠🤙

I run GL-Inet Flint V2 and it's bas ass

I did not find the Flint GL-AX1800 on the openwrt list of supported hardware. 👀

Does it work anyway? The list might not be updated...

https://openwrt.org/toh/start

Yeah it does.

Not sure this fits your situation, but might be useful:

This article also mentions the Flint GL-AX1800 👀. I will read in detail. Thanks 🫂🤠🤙

"A Cheaper, Simpler Option

A few months after publishing this article, I came across a new router that gets most of the way toward achieving the goals of this project. For only $100 you can buy the Flint (GL-AX1800) and protect all your home network traffic with a WireGuard VPN. The caveats:

Your speeds will be limited to 500 Mbps due to the weaker ARM CPU.

The selective routing configurability is more limited; the best it can do is allow you to set up a "guest network" that isn't routed over the VPN and then you must configure your non-VPN device to use that Wi-Fi network."

For the same price you can get the never version Flint 2 and it's way more pokey

I didn't see the V2 in you first nite 👀 the Flint 2 is on the supported device list. Thanks mate 🤠🤙

If you do get one let me know. We have a very small telegram chat for tips, tricks and general chit chat with it. 👍

That was quick 😎👌🏽

It will probably be saturday until i can set it up. Do you have any recommendations for me to read as preparation? I'll start with the manual 🤓

Is it really this easy?

It sounded more difficult in the mullvad tutorial. 🤔 What am i missing?

Do i need to reinstall OpenWRT or can i use the installed version?

https://mullvad.net/en/help/running-wireguard-router

It's as easy as that I can assure you.

Are you running the installed firmware?

Just found this:

"OEM firmware: fork of OpenWrt 23.05.0, kernel 5.15.134, GCC 12.3, custom theme, some outdated packages, default IP is 192.168.8.1, HFO and WED enabled by default"

ye custom build with kernel6 here. much better than other commercial prods

You can find me in the sovereign bitcoiner telegram chat if you want to reach out and I'll then add you to our Flint chat.

Thanks. Currently i don't have telegram. ( nostr only 🤠🤙 )
