Try something simple to start like a pole in a parking lot, the back of a street sign, or another place that's public property.

I have put up stickers in front of people before and never had a problem. Just avoid covering signage and other private property and you'll be fine.

In the rare case someone says something to you, just remove it and let them know it doesn't do permanent damage :)
