The Two Towers, Bologna Italy

The Bologna Towers are a group of medieval structures in Bologna, Italy. The two most important ones, known as the Two Towers, are a symbol of the city. Both are symbols of Bologna. They were built between 1109-1119 AD.

Although it is claimed that the number of Bologna towers reached 200 in the Middle Ages, very few of them have survived to the present day. The most famous of these towers, known as Due Torri or the twin towers, are Asinelli and Garisenda, and are located not only in the city center of Bologna but also in other municipalities affiliated with Bologna.

It is estimated that at the beginning of 1115, two long-established families living in Bologna had these towers built to show which house was more powerful. Although it is not possible to have a clear idea of ​​which tower belonged to which family since there is not enough documentation from that period, the magnificent view of these twin towers built by the Asinelli and Garisenda families fascinates those who see them.
