A very timely release of my dice rolls rant.

Spoke to another user last night (in a public TG chat if you want receipts) that had more Bitcoin stolen than I could ever dream of owning. Heartbreaking.

If you insist on doing dice rolls on a CC, make sure the FW is up to date.

Meaning there's a version of CC that has a bad firmware for rolling dice?

Not bad firmware, just firmware that does not enforce minimum dice rolls, allowing users to do stupid shit like create a seed with 5 rolls.

They still don't enforce a minimum they only warn, right?

Firmware v5.1.1 and above enforces minimums. Mk4 only.

Just listened to this section of the pod. Scary shit. Is there a way for someone to tell if they did additional rolls on top of the device random generation or just dice rolls besides just their memory of doing it? I doubt it but thought I’d ask.

Nope sorry.

I’m glad I used the “puppy sail” video.

@ODELL

Did the same thing. RIP puppy sail.

are dice rolls on CC, just adding more entropy to pregenerated seed though?

You can do that or generate from scratch with no additional entropy.

so is the puppy sale video fine?

Link me please and I'll check

If you follow it exactly yes its fine cause you're adding to thw already very good randomness of the device.

The problem is people that see something like this, where Matt does <10 rolls and then stumble across the feature on device that allows them to create a seed from scratch (no device entropy).

If they don't do enough rolls in that process and are running the old device and/or firmware without the minimum roll enforcement, they create a shitty seed and 'money gone'.

right, I'm with you. Thanks for the clarification!

Right, but if you did 99 rolls, you’re likely ok?

This is one of my favorite pods lately. So many things to love. Great content, well produced, and podcast chapters!
