Yep, exactly. The more accounts that have blue checks, the more customers it looks like he has.
In reality, he was giving them away for free and people still turned them off.
He took a globally recognized status symbol, justified or not, and reduced it to a mass-produced $8 trinket. It’s no surprise that it no longer holds any weight.
