MLS group chats can support thousands of members without a hard cap. However, when a new member joins, the "welcome" message — which grows in size as the number of group members increases — is delivered via a Nostr private note, which has a size limit. This constraint currently imposes a practical upper bound on the number of group members. In Keychat, the current limit is around 100 to 150 members per MLS group. However, this is not a hard problem to solve — in the future, we can address it by delivering the welcome message as a file instead.
