I can’t think of her without thinking about how little we know about the brain still. So many think of doctors as all knowing. They don’t realize that half of what medical students learn in med school is outdated by the time they graduate. There is so much to learn about the brain. Our lack of knowledge affects the daily lives of so many. I honestly think some things we class as mental illness will one day be considered a neurological issue.

I personally have quite literally lived at the edge of scientific advancement. It’s an interesting place to be as a patient. I’m just lucky to have not had any severe life long post surgical complications to the extent as Rosemary Kennedy. I do think it’s important to keep in my mind that at the time that was top of the line treatment.

So much of medical history sounds barbaric now.
