Christians are to love their enemies regardless of whether they deserve it. Only those who love their enemies are children of God. Nonviolent enemy love is what sets Christianity apart from other religions. Unfortunately, this command is not obeyed by many Christians.

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matthew 5:43-48 NIV)

In all four Gospel accounts, absolutely no violence was mentioned. There is no mention of Jesus using the whip on anyone. The whip is only mentioned in John. Animals are also only mentioned in John. A whip has always been useful in controlling the movement of animals.

If you set up a booth, and some guy came by and flipped over your table, would you consider that a friendly gesture?

He’d likely be flipping it TOWARDS you, sending all your merchandise flying at you. Maybe one of the tables would land on you or someone else’s body?

What if he then said that your presence made a house of prayer a den of robbers, i.e. you are a robber?

And then he was holding a whip, and not letting people move freely?

All this would be non-violence?
