Publically traded companies have been infiltrated by anti-capitalist radical fascists. They found their power is limited within government, but nearly unlimited from within big tech. Managerial polyarchy is a well known phenemon, leadership of a large organizatio rarely has control over what their organization does or how it behaves. They are insulated from the truth by "yes men" and CYA managers. Some of their only levers is to fire middle management, sell off problematic divisions, or quit. They don't know there is a problem, or what direction their organization truly has been headed until its too late. Imagine being the captain of the titanic but you arent allowed to inspect the ship yourself, all your ship hands lie to you for fear of losing their jobs, and you cant even tell where you are on the map until all your passengers start screaming about a huge hole in the hull.
The problem isnt necessarily leadership, though a rare few know how spot lies and make the organization succeed in spite of it self, the problem is the labor-law environment organizations need to operate within and the influence of large infestment funds that are in turn controlled by a majority government
