All according to the playbook:

1) use propaganda to spread the "awareness" of how decentralized money is only used by criminals and how it harms kids

2) threaten to ban it

3) keep the companies participating in this alive but gradually impose more and more regulation and compliance on them

4) use propaganda to spread the "awareness" of how many baby seals bitcoin mining is killing

5) "embrace" bitcoin through etfs so "bitcoiners" are happy and distracted

6) more propaganda: we're not banning bitcoin, your bank is selling you "bitcoin" now, we're friends, vote for me.

7) attack privacy technologies that interfere with your surveillance

8) but NgU, orange man good, cypherpunks forgotten

9) crack down on cash payments since its only used by pedophiles anyway

10) crack down on "non-compliant" ways for people to buy bitcoin (only hurts a minority, masses dont care cuz its just some nieche companies and solutions disappearing

---- WE ARE HERE NOW ----

10) more strict laws incoming or already here(MiCA, travel rule, AML etc)

11) NgU, we are changing the world bla bla, bitcoin fixes this, blackrock buys my bags

12) Cash payments disappear, cunts in brussels reading your cope texts to your cryptobros

13) privacy gone, cash long forgotten, what is p2p electronic money

14) can i haz more NgU, i need my orange lambo

15) propaganda: west embraces "bitcoin", "developed" countries have bitcoin balance sheet

16) majority of people use bitcoin as their grandfathers savings account through their bank. most of them never done a transaction outside of their broker. NgU so the world is good, bitcoin will change everything.

17) 90% of transactions follow travel rule and are between kyc'd wallets

18) bitcoin won because you get to tell your parents that you were right to buy the pet rock since you can now afford the 1bedroom apartment since bitcoin crossed $2million

19) the only non-kyc lightning nodes are 3 raspis on tor in someones basement

20) remaining 10% onchain transactions are force closures by LND

21) bitcoin effectively becomes cbdc and nobody notices

… or we see the proliferation of a million grey market ecash mints.

In the meantime we take our time to find a trustless way to scale self-custody.

Life finds a way

i don't think grey (if we take grey as unofficial but not illegal) market ecash mints exist. In the eyes of the state money service business is either licensed (white) or illegal (black).

That definition makes sense. I’m just wondering if someone runs a mint for family and friends, how will it be distinguishable from any other raspi on tor?

I guess its not, but that doesn't solve anything really. its possible to do it now, but outside of the echo chamber theres only a tiny amount of economic activity happening on bitcoin outside of trading.

The problem is not how to run a black market mint, the problem is that there is little(or none) demand for it. A lot of the things are possible already, others could be solved given enough demand that would actually pay for the solutions or usage.

but none of that negates anything on the playbook i've posted.

Our problems are not technical, they are philosophical and spiritual one. Coercion to our society is like water to the fish - we've never known anything else. And that makes it very hard for people to break the walls in their minds, to see through the bullshit and opt out.

I agree with everything you’re saying. I guess I am optimistic… people need a certain amount of pain before they are ready to wake up, both philosophically and spiritually.

I’m currently (re)reading Awareness by Anthony de Mello. I can wholeheartedly recommend it as a reset for the mind. It’s a great read if you like to laugh about yourself :)

FWIW I’m also quite optimistic on MoE adoption of bitcoin… it will start with small businesses demanding payment in bitcoin. I’ve run my coaching business almost exclusively in bitcoin for the last two years. I learned a lot about the pain points and am working on a new product to make it easier⚡️
