Sweet, why did you go with Cinnamon? Is it your first desktop environment?

No not at all. Long time Linux user since I got a Mepis DVD that came with a book in the mid 2000’s. Used to like gnome but it was a bit heavy and then became hardcore on Xfce but tried out cinnamon for the first time playing with mint and really liked it as an environment. Not overly heavy but plenty of customization and eye candy. I’m not a huge fan of the new gnome so switched it out for cinnamon.

I've used Gnome Shell in the 3.x era and I quite liked it, but it became a bit heavy in my experience. After trying out some desktop environment, I found a new home in Budgie on Solus.

Last year I really tried out Icewm and it is a great lightweight DE, however I couldn't find any plans for it to switch to Wayland (or at least not in the foreseeable future) so when I heard Budgie will use Xfce stuff (specifically the libxfce4windowing library) to transition to Wayland¹ I'm kind of glad.

It is a fairly lightweight DE with their default layout akin to pre-Windows 11/Cinnamon but customisable to become completely different if you want it. But knowing me I'll keep looking at more lightweight options when they come around, but my biggest "requirement" is that it should be transitioning/have transitioned Wayland (or be native to it even). And I like the Windows layout ✌️😏
